Sino-US Innovation Dialogue Held in Beijing

 

The Sino-US Innovation Dialogue was held on Oct. 14 of 2010 in Beijing. MOST Minister WAN Gang and Director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy John Holdren presided over the event. Officials from a host of Chinese and American governmental branches and representatives from enterprises and the academia of both sides were present. On China’s side, participants came from the Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, National Development and Reform Commission, Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Commerce, State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission, State Intellectual Property Office, Chinese Academy of Engineering, China Meteorological Administration, the Natural Science Foundation of China, etc. On the US side, officials mainly came from the Department of State, Department of Commerce, Department of Treasury, Department of Energy, Office of the US Trade Representative, and the US Patent and Trademark Office. They exchanged ideas on four topics: innovation policies in China and the US, best practice of innovation policies, views of enterprises towards pro-innovation measures, and methods for boosting innovation.

The event was initiated by the special envoys of Chinese and American heads of state during the 2nd China-US Strategic Economic Dialogue (SED II), and held within the framework of the China-US Joint Commission Meeting on Science and Technology. The next round of dialogue is going to be held in May, 2011 before the SED.
