On 27 May, ZHOU Ji, Minister of Education, ZHANG Shaochun, Vice Minister of Finance and CHENG Jinpei, Vice Minister of Science and Technology went on a special trip to Qingdao to discuss the construction of Qingdao State Laboratory of Marine Science and Technology.

Academician GUAN Huashi from Ocean University of China briefed the background, development approach and preparation for the state laboratory of marine science and technology. The leaders present at the conference fully affirmed the approach of integrating the advantages taken by the 5 Qingdao marine research institutes in the building of the laboratory and put forth many instructive opinions regarding the future work.
