“China-Portugal Triticale Shuttle Breeding and Genetic Improvement” is an intergovernmental S&T cooperation project between China and Portugal, which was undertaken jointly by the Institute of Crop Science, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences and UTAD University of Portugal. Through introduction of 38 Portuguese high-quality triticale varieties and their hybridization with the leading high-quality triticale varieties of our country, a batch of special triticale breeding materials were created that were characterized by high yield, good quality and strong disease resistance.

This project enriched the genetic basis with genes of strong disease resistance and tolerance, which is of great significance to high-quality triticale breeding in our country.
