On July 6, 2007 Vice Minister CAO and officials from the Department of Hi-tech Development and Industrialization of MOST paid a visit to the Institute of High Energy Physics (IHEP), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS).
According to CAO, high energy physics is a key area that brings about major breakthroughs in science and technology in the 20th century. China’s nuclear energy research, represented by the “two bombs and one satellite”, broke new ground in the 1950s and 1960s, and stimulated scientific progress in related fields, such as physics, chemistry and materials. Efforts should be made to further develop the strength of high energy physics, and deepen its basic and hi-tech research in a bid to underpin the national S&T programs.
