13th Session of Sino-US S&T Cooperation Joint Committee Held in US

 

 


The 13th Meeting of Sino-US S&T Cooperation Joint Committee was held on October 15 at the National Academy of Sciences (NAS), Washington, the US. Those who addressed the event included Minister of MOST WAN Gang, Chinese Ambassador to America Zhou Wenzhong, Director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy John Holdren, US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Stuart Jones, and NAS President Ralph J. Cicerone. American President Barack Obama congratulated on the opening of the meeting by sending his letter. 

The meeting was co-chaired by Minister WAN and Director Holdren. Participants to the meeting discussed a range of issues, including R&D in institutions of higher learning, basic research and innovation capabilities, agriculture, energy, climate change mitigation, R&D financing, mechanism for joint assistance of bio-medicine research, clean coal technology, protection and utilization of sea resources, nuclear safety, measurement technology, earthquake prediction and disaster mitigation. Both sides reached consensus on promoting joint researches in those areas and strengthening support for them. A Joint Statement was released.
