China’s mountainous area accounts fro 69% of its land area, with 90% of forest and 98% of water in this area. Mountainous rural areas are where poor people are concentrated. Therefore, it’s important to strengthen capacity building in mountainous rural areas through science and technology, so as to improve their social, economic and ecological conditions. It is also part of China’s endeavor in building a “green” country and new socialist countryside.
