CSTEC Takes Mainland Enterprises to 2017 MIECF

The 2017 Macao International Environmental Co-operation Forum and Exhibition (MIECF), with the theme of “Innovative Green Development for Sustainable Future”, was held in Macao from March 30th to April 1st 2017. The event was sponsored by the Government of the Macao Special Administrative Region and supported by the Ministry of Science and Technology, the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the Ministry of Environmental Protection of China. The opening ceremony on the morning of March 30th was addressed by Chui Sai On, Chief Executive of the Macao SAR and Wu Yuan Bin, special representative of Vice Minster Xu Nanping of the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), and Director General of Science and Technology for Social Development of MOST.

MOST set up its own exhibition zone again at the MIECF and displayed major achievements from the mainland during the 12th Five-Year Plan in the areas of air pollution monitoring and prevention, technology and demonstration of carbon capture and storage. The Exhibition of Achievements in Environmental Science and Technology During the 12th Five-Year Plan was launched at the exhibition zone of MOST. The ribbon-cutting ceremony was attended by Wu Yuanbin, Director General of the Department of Science and Technology for Social Development of MOST; Raymond Tam Vai Man, Director of the Macao Environmental Protection Bureau; Xu Jun, Vice-Ministerial Assistant of the Department of Economic Affairs of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao SAR and Ma Chi Ngai, Chairman of the Administrative Committee of the Macao Science and Technology Development Fund. Also present at the ceremony was Wu Cheng, Deputy Director General of China Science and Technology Exchange Center (CSTEC) and several members of the Science and Technology Commission of the Macao SAR.
    
CSTEC was in charge of coordination and organization of the Exhibition Zone of MOST. It introduced eight exhibitors including the University of Science and Technology Beijing, Institute of Atmospheric Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shenhua Group, and Yixing Industrial Park for Environmental Science & Technology. Theses exhibitors showcased the latest environmental technologies by multiple means such as sand tables, physical exhibits, multi-media display and exhibition boards. In particular, a large number of visitors were attracted by the“model of large-scale demonstration of integrated technology of carbon capture and storage”presented by the Shenhua Group and the sand table of“major project on water pollution control” presented by the Yixing Industrial Park for Environmental Science & Technology. The Exhibition Zone of MOST was bestowed the Green Booth Award by the sponsor.

Background:

Since its first session held in 2008, MIECF has become an important platform for environmental protection and development in Macao. This year marks the tenth session of the MIECF. Through a series of events including Green Showcase, Green Forum, Green Exchange and Green Business Co-operation Day, the 2017 MIECF promotes B2B and technological exchanges in cutting-edge areas of environmental protection, promotes cooperation and development of international green programs and raise public awareness of environmental protection. The 2017 MIECF was engaged by 450 exhibitors and quite a number of visitors from the United States, Europe and other countries and regions.
