Minister Wan Meets with U.S. Energy Secretary Rick Perry

On June 5, 2017 Minister Wan Gang met with a delegation led by U.S. Secretary of Energy Rick Perry. The two held in-depth discussions on a wide range of issues about the U.S.-China Clean Energy Research Center (CERC), CEM8/MI2, and Electric Vehicle Initiative.

Minister Wan pointed out that China and the U.S. have maintained robust energy cooperation, and conducted pragmatic and effective cooperation within the CERC and the China-US Fossil Energy Protocol frameworks, and the two countries are playing leading roles in the multilateral mechanisms like the CEM and MI Ministerial. He hoped both sides can strengthen coordination to push for progress in clean energy technologies, take good advantage of multinational platforms such as CEM and MI, share our successful experience and innovation models, and make contributions to the global innovation of clean energy technologies and low-carbon development.

Secretary Perry spoke highly of bilateral cooperation in the energy sector, saying the U.S. is willing to pursue steady cooperation under the CERC and China-US Fossil Energy Protocol frameworks. He pointed out that the CEM8 and MI2 reflected China’s leadership in the global response to climate change, and all participating countries can play their roles to pursue the shared goal of green, clean and low-carbon development.

Ye Dongbai, Director-General of International Cooperation, Deng Xiaoming, Deputy Director-General of Science and Technology for Social Development, and Chen Linhao, Deputy Director-General of International Cooperation, were present at the meeting.
