Minister Wang Zhigang Addresses P4G Summit

The first Partnering for Green Growth and the Global Goals 2030 (P4G) Summit was held in Copenhagen from October 19 to 20, 2018. At the invitation of Prime Minister of Denmark Lars Løkke Rasmussen, Minister Wang Zhigang of the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) of China attended the summit and gave a speech.

In his speech, Minister Wang Zhigang talked about the far-reaching significance of China’s new development concepts, especially green development, and shared experience, practices and progress of China’s Program for Building National Innovation Demonstration Zones for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. He highlighted the core role of science, technology and innovation in driving global green growth and sustainable development and the role of businesses and NGOs in advancing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and expressed China’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with the international community in sustainable development. His speech attracted attention from other countries.

Denmark’s Prime Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen delivered welcoming remarks at the opening ceremony of the summit, which was attended by heads of states and governments including ROK President Moon Jae-in, then Ethiopian President Mulatu Teshome, Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte and representatives from more than 30 multinational corporations such as Unilever, Siemens and Broad Group and more than 20 international organizations such as the World Bank, Global Environment Facility, United Nations Global Compact, International Finance Corporation, Asian Development Bank, African Development Bank, World Resources Institute and International Union for Conservation of Nature. The heads of states, leaders of international organizations, scholars, NGO representatives and prominent representatives of relevant sectors discussed how to deliver the UN Sustainable Development Goals and Paris Agreement by establishing new partnerships.

Also present at the summit were Chinese Ambassador to Denmark Deng Ying, Director General Wu Yuanbin of the Department of Science and Technology for Social Development and Director General Ye Dongbai of the Department of International Cooperation of MOST.
