In May 2001, the State Council approved the establishment of Beijing Life Science Research Institute, so as to attract excellent overseas Chinese talents to return and enhance the overall level of life science and biotechnology in China. On December 9^th, 2005 the Institute located in Zhongguancun Science Park was inaugurated, marking the completion of the preparation for and construction of the Institute. Present at the ceremony were LIU Qi, Member of Political Bureau of CPC Central Committee and Secretary of Beijing Municipal Party Committee, ZHANG Meiying, Vice President of CPPCC (Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference), XU Guanhua, Minister of Science and Technology, WANG Qishan, Mayor of Beijing Municipal People’s Government, and LI Jianhua, Deputy Head of the Organization Department of CPC Central Committee and Central Coordination Group for Talents.
