On September 27 2007, Minister WAN Gang met with Mr. Alan I. Leshner, Chief Executive Officer of American Association for the Advancement of Science(AAAS) and Executive Publisher of Science Magazine. Both sides exchanged views on research integrity.

According to WAN, research misconduct has become a common problem for science community around the world. To protect the research integrity, we shall take the following approaches: creating a free and unrestrained environment so that scientists can face the failure and take the responsibility; encouraging and protecting scientists’ enthusiasm in innovation; promoting education on integrity and development of integrity records.

Mr. Leshner agreed with WAN and pointed out that people increasingly noticed that S&T innovation is closely related to the future of human society and the level of living standards. AAAS would like to carry out cooperation with MOST on science popularization, science-related magazines and so on, to jointly protect research integrity.
