The signing ceremony for the Agreement on S&T Cooperative Mechanism between MOST and the Government of Xinjiang Autonomous Region (GXAR) was held in Beijing recently. The ceremony was also the first meeting between MOST and GXAR, which marked the official launch of such mechanism that jointly promotes S&T work in Xinjiang Autonomous Region.

According to the Agreement, a cooperative committee will be set up and co-headed by the minister of MOST and the Chairman of GXAR. Both sides will hold an annual meeting to coordinate and deploy major S&T work. Current mechanism will be in effect from 2007 to 2010.
