On 26 April 2006, MOST hosted the National Conference on Science and Technology for Social Development in Beijing. The main purpose of this conference is to carry out comprehensively the Outline of National Medium and Long-term S&T Development Plan (2006-2020) and act in the spirit of the National Conference on Science and technology, sum up the results of the S&T work for social development achieved in the Tenth Five Year, exchange successful experiences and practices and study, then deploy the S&T work for social development in the eleventh Five Year period.

Madam DENG Nan, Chief Executive Secretary, China Association for Science and Technology, LIU Yanhua and CAO Jianlin, Vice Ministers for Science and Technology and LI Jiayang, Vice President of Chinese Academy of Sciences attended the conference. More than 200 delegates from relevant ministries and commissions, local S&T administrations, research institutes, universities, government-owned enterprises and various industries were present at the conference.
