Sino-US Innovation Conference Held in Beijing

 

 

On 10th December 2007, the Sino-US Innovation Conference was held in Beijing Shangri-La Hotel. It was jointly organized by MOST, the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) and Ministry of Commerce, as well as the U.S. State Department and Department of Commerce.

Vice Minister LI Xueyong delivered a keynote speech at the opening ceremony titled “China’s Strategy and Policy for Innovation”. He elaborated on the objective of the Chinese government to promote a sound and rapid development of national economy. He also pointed out that the core of our national development strategy and the key to enhancing our overall national strength is to improve the capacity of indigenous innovation and build an innovative nation. China has mapped out its “National Medium and Long-Term Development Plan of Science and Technology (2006-2020)” and it’s supporting policies.

In the following panel sessions, the representatives from both sides exchanged their views on such subjects as the role of government and public-private partnership in cultivating innovation, the industrial perspective on the factors of innovation, as well as the role of industrial community and the signification of innovation and competition in an innovative society.
