On May 16th, 2009 National S&T Week & Beijing S&T Week opened in Beijing. LIU Yandong, member of the Political Bureau of the CCCPC and State Councilor emphasized on the opening ceremony the importance to disseminate S&T and pool the innovation resources of the entire society, so as to facilitate the steady and fast economic growth and the building of an innovative country.

Themed with “Jointly Building an Innovative Country”, the S&T Week gave priority to four aspects, namely campaign for awareness of scientific outlook on development, S&T services to support economic development, promotion of S&T for the benefit of the public, and popular science activities. Departments of 31 provinces (municipalities, districts) and 25 central government departments will organize more than 1400 events. Macao SAR of the People’s Republic of China will launch 2009 Macao S&T Week.
