The launch ceremony of the Demonstration Project on Clean Vehicles in Kunming was held in Kunming World Expo Garden on July 17, 2009. Minister WAN Gang addressed the event. Also present were Director General LI Chaochen from the Administrative Office of MOST and Director General FENG Jichun from the Department of High-tech Development and Industrialization of MOST.

According to WAN, it is of great significance to kick off the demonstration project  in the city of Kunming, because to run clean vehicles in this plateau city in west China would enable the country to blaze a trail to the development of green vehicles.
