On October 15, 2019, Chinese Minister of Science and technology Wang Zhigang led a delegation to Germany and met with German Federal Minister of Transport and Digital Infrastructure Andreas Scheuer in Berlin. The two sides held full discussions on implementing the important agreement reached by the heads of state and deepening bilateral cooperation in transport.
Minister Wang Zhigang said that Chinese President Xi Jinping, in his meeting with German Chancellor Merkel last month, singled out the cooperation in the automobile industry as a good example of win-win benefits, stressing that both sides should strengthen ties in the automotive field. Minister Wang Zhigang noted that the Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology is following up on the agreement reached by the two heads of state and believed that science and technology is vital to the development of transportation and infrastructure. He said that the two sides have already carried out fruitful cooperation in electric vehicles, hydrogen energy, fuel cells and other fields and should also strengthen exchanges and engagements in autonomous driving, IoT, AI and big data, foster cooperation across the entire industry chain, further improve the mechanism of interagency dialogue, expand new modes and new areas of cooperation and promote deeper and more pragmatic STI cooperation in the field of transport.
Minister Andreas Scheuer briefed the Chinese guests on the development of transport in Germany, including digital infrastructure, and reviewed the practical cooperation between China and Germany in electric mobility, fuel cells and other fields. Minister Scheuer hoped that in the future the two sides could strengthen communication and exchanges in the field of transport to produce more practical results.
After the meeting, Minister Wang Zhigang and Minister Andreas Scheuer renewed the Joint Statement of Intention on Continuing Cooperation in Innovation-Driven Technology and Related Infrastructure.
Director General Ye Dongbai of the Department of International Cooperation, Director General Xu Jing of the Department of Strategy and Planning and Director General Chen Jiachang of China Science and Technology Exchange Center of the Ministry of Science and Technology, and Yin Jun, Minister Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy to Germany were present at the meeting.
