“Research into the Standard of Safety Limitations and Control over Major Meat, Egg, Dairy and Bee Products” is one of the topics of “Major Technical Standards Study”, a major national S&T programme of the Tenth Five-Year Plan. This topic is aimed at establishing a whole set of management criteria for the livestock and domestic fowl products and bee products, and veterinary drugs application criteria and technical control standards, by which to promote the steady and healthy development of China’s fishing breeding and poultry raising industry, to ensure the consumption safety of Chinese consumers, and to promote the fast growth of China’s foreign trade.

The safety limitation standards were put forward for 227 kinds of veterinary drugs in the body of animals. Topline Limit on Veterinary Drug Residue in Foodstuffs of Animal Meat was formulated and the Ministry of Agriculture has released it in the form of Announcement No. 235 for implementation, which has provided a criteria for testing the residue of veterinary drugs in animal bodies. 293 types of Veterinary Drug Recess Rules have been worked out for prevention and cure of diseases in hogs, broilers, layers, milch cows and bees. The Ministry of Agriculture has released them in the form of Announcement No. 278 for implementation. And for the very first time, Veterinary Drug Use Rules was formulated.
