The Forum on Solar Thermal Power Technologies (STPT) was held from August 13 to 15 of 2007 in Sanya City of Hainan Province with a theme of STPT commercialization. The event was hosted by the Chinese Renewable Energy Society and the Chinese Society of Engineering Thermophysics, and attended by delegates from the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), MOST, domestic and overseas enterprises, research institutes and universities.

It was commonly held that STPT enjoys the potential for large-scale development and commercialization in the near future. It is a focal point in the development of energy technologies and a priority of the global solar energy technology development. In the next two decades, China will center on achieving world-class development, contributing to the grand national energy strategy, and attaining large-scale commercialization in equipment research and core technologies related to the overall planning of solar thermal power stations, the focus of sunlight, heat absorption and storage, etc.
