The 6th Steering Committee Meeting on China-EU S&T Cooperation was convened on November 14th at the premises of MOST, with the presence of Vice Minister SHANG Yong of MOST and Jose Manuel Silva Rodriguez, Director General of Research DG of the European Commission as the heads of the respective delegation.
Both sides focused on an in-depth discussion of the new cooperation mechanism based on equality, and agreed to make joint calls and reviews to determine and support the cooperative projects in areas of common priority. The first pilot areas are energy, environment, public health and biotechnologies. They have also agreed to specify relevant details and launch the “China-EU S&T Partnership and Cooperation Program” in the coming weeks.
In addition, they had a thorough exchange of ideas on their own S&T policies, and discussed such issues as prolonging the China-EU S&T Cooperation Agreement, exchange of S&T personnel as well as encouraging and supporting European scientists to take part in China’s national scientific research programs.
