During the 2007 Shanghai World Special Olympic Games, RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technology was successfully applied to the ID recognition of athletes and staff and management of venue entry-exit. It was also used for the inquiry and tracking of the information about the athletes, stadiums, residences, matches and medical care, etc.
The application of RFID technology during the Special Olympic Games achieved effective results. The key technology of RFID used in the Shanghai Special Olympic Games was the achievement accomplished with the support of one significant project under the State 863 Program - “RFID Technology and Application”. Our country has the proprietary IPR of this technology.
The application of RFID in Shanghai Special Olympic Games was a field drill for the technology and its products. It was the first time for RFID technology to be successfully applied in a large international sports event and was also the biggest case ever for RFID to be used in personal ID identification.
