The Beijing-1 micro-satellite and its operation system are part of the research achievements of the 863 Program and the National Key Technologies R&D Program in the 10th Five-Year Plan. They are also developed within the framework of the Digital Beijing Project and the Action Plan on 2008 Hi-tech Olympic Games.
Since its successful launch on October 27th of 2005, the Beijing-1 micro-satellite has brought into full play its ground station. Over the two years, it has obtained 4-meter panchromatic images covering over 3 million square meters of China’s territory, completed 32-meter multi-spectral cloud-free images of the country for three times, and carried out intensive observations on key regions.
