On January 7th, 2008, Minister WAN Gang of Science and Technology met with Mr. David Emerson, the Minister of International Trade of Canada in Beijing. The two sides exchanged views on the current Sino-Canadian S&T relations, the execution of the Sino-Canadian Agreement on S&T Cooperation over the year since its conclusion, and envisioned the future cooperation.

WAN said, the Sino-Canadian Agreement on Science and Technology which was concluded last January had exerted profound impact on the bilateral relationship and the Sino-Canadian S&T cooperation and exchange. Minister Emerson agreed with him and suggested a set of potential cooperative fields, including low carbon energy, agriculture, food and communications.

The two sides discussed and reached common understanding on issues including the commercialization of research results, clean energy development, and cooperation to be carried out by the Sino-Canadian joint working group in priority areas.
