During January 17th–18th, 2008, MOST held in Shanghai the Meeting on Experience Exchange in the Building of Local Science and Technology Platform, with over 100 representatives from MOST, the Ministry of Finance, relevant agencies of the State Council, and local governments. Vice Minister LIU Yanhua addressed the meeting.

The vice minister stressed that platform building is based on integration of resources and focused on information sharing. Sound mechanism is the key to its success and it aims at improving efficiency. He indicated that MOST was currently making research and survey on the development plan for national science and technology platform for the next three years. The plan, driven by the demands of major national strategies, focused on innovation capacity building and guaranteed by policy and regulation system, will further strengthen the building of innovation base, platform and resource sharing mechanism, enhance its supportive service capacity and set up the long term effective mechanism for its sound development.

At the meeting, representatives talked about their typical experiences and made field visit to the R&D public service platforms in Shanghai, especially Shanghai Multimedia Public Service Platform, Shanghai Bio-Medicine Platform (Laboratory Animal Resource Center) and others with local features.
