On January 21, 2007, Vice Minister SHANG Yong attended the opening ceremony of the China Office of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and delivered a speech.

SHANG expressed, on behalf of MOST, cordial congratulations to the establishment of the IEEE China Office and believed that the establishment of the Office would definitely promote the exchange and cooperation between the IEEE and relevant entities in China in the area of electrical and electronic technology.

Before the ceremony, SHANG met with Mr. Lewis Terman, president of the IEEE and other distinguished guests.

IEEE is the largest specialized academic society in the world. It has more than 370,000 members in over 150 countries and regions, among which over 6,000 are Chinese. The IEEE is also the most influential academic organization in the area of electrical and electronic technology.
