On the afternoon of January 29, 2008, Shang Yong, Vice Minister of Science and Technology met with the delegation led by Ms. Taiya Smith, Executive Secretary-general of United States Department of the Treasury. They exchanged opinions on ten-year planning of Sino-US energy and environment cooperation.

Ms. Smith said, during the 3^rd Strategic Economic Dialogue, a Sino-US agreement was reached that a working group for ten-year planning of Sino-US energy and environment cooperation should be set up as soon as possible and work should be started. Vice Minister Shang Yong agreed with the planning framework brought out by Ms. Smith, and said, MOST would actively participate in the planning work led by NDRC. In addition, Vice Minister Shang Yong responded to Ms. Smith’s proposals with regard to the objective, cooperation mechanism and implementation of the ten-year planning.
