On February 19, 2008, the Department of High and New Technology Development and Industrialization, MOST held in Beijing the Seminar on the Development of Energy-saving and New Energy Cars.

Therepresentatives fully affirmed the achievements accomplished in energy-saving and new energy cars, and also made comments and suggestions on technological development of China's automobile industry and the incentives for new energy cars.   

Minister WAN Gang pointed out that, while the humans are facing such great challenges as energy shortages and climate changes, China has made exited progress in the research on gas-powered vehicles, energy-saving and new energy cars. Since we are at the critical timefor the research on the basic technologies of new energy cars, it is necessary for the state departments to formulate related policies to promote the industrialization of a batch of mature technologies and thereby facilitate energy conservation and emission reduction.
