Minister WAN Gang met a delegation from the U. S. Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) headed by former New York mayor Pataki. They visited China to know its efforts on energy conservation and emissions reduction, climate change and application of clean technologies.
After welcoming the guests, WAN pointed out that the Chinese government attaches great importance to energy conservation and emissions reduction, setting a specific goal on reducing per unit GDP energy consumption and the emission of the main pollutants. China has also issued policies to encourage the use of solar energy, wind energy and renewable energy. WAN briefed the foreign guests on a series of environmental protection measures China has adopted in clean energy, transportation zero emission, air conditioning, lighting, water recycling in major Olympic venues.
During their trip to China, the U.S. delegation will also attend a seminar on Sino-US Climate Change held by Tsinghua University and CFR, which is sponsored by China-United States Exchange Foundation, set up by Vice President Tung Chee Hwa of CPPCC.
