The 2008 China-Canada S&T Cooperation Executive Secretary Meeting was held in Beijing on October 13th. MA Linying, Deputy Director-General of International Cooperation of MOST, and Paul Thoppil, Director-General of Innovation and Partnerships, Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada, co-hosted the meeting as the executive secretaries.

Both parties reviewed the implementation of cooperation since signing of China-Canada S&T Cooperation Agreement, discussed existing problems in management of China-Canada Joint S&T Fund and made proposals on future cooperation. Both also exchanged opinions on priority fields of cooperation set at the previous session of S&T Joint Committee Meeting (JCM). Representatives of both sides reached consensus on holding the 2nd China-Canada S&T JCM in early 2009.
