On December 31st of 2008, the National Office of Science and Technology Awards and the National Astronomical Observatories of the Chinese Academy of Sciences signed “Cooperation Agreement on Naming Asteroids after the State Supreme S&T Award Winners” in Beijing. Vice Minister CAO Jianlin of Science and Technology attended the signing ceremony.
According to the Agreement, asteroids shall be named after one to three winners each year.
