On March 23rd of 2009, Minister WAN Gang of Science and Technology attended the welcome ceremony, formal meeting and signing ceremony of related documents, which was held by Chinese president HU Jintao for President Tabaré Ramón Vázquez Rosas of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay during his state visit to China.

After the meeting between the two heads of states, Minister WAN signed the Minutes of the 1st Joint Committee Meeting on Cooperation in Science and Technology between the People’s Republic of China and the Oriental Republic of Uruguay with Dr. Rubianes, President of National Research and Innovation Agency of Uruguay.

The 1st China-Uruguay S&T JCM was held in Beijing on March 18th, which was jointly chaired by Vice Minister CAO Jianlin of Science and Technology and Dr. Rubianes. Both agreed to identify agriculture, fishery, new energy, biotechnology, Antarctic research and ICT as priority fields of S&T cooperation in the future.
