On June 11th of 2009, Vice-Minister CAO Jianlin met with visiting Mr. Bernard Belloc, Advisor of Higher Education and Scientific Research to French President. They appraised the existing China-France S&T cooperation, and exchanged opinions on deepening cooperation.

Both expressed the willingness to launch major cooperation projects in the fields of sustainable development such as renewable and new energy, electronic vehicles and water resources management, public health such as emerging disease treatment and prevention, traditional Chinese medicine and western medicine integration and intestinal metagenome. Both will continue to strengthen the existing Sino-French Joint Lab (LIA), support research institutes, universities, and enterprises of both countries to establish new joint labs and long-term cooperation platform.
