DU Zhanyuan, Vice Minister of MOST, met with Ajay Chhibber, the UN Assistant Secretary General, the Assistant Administrator of UNDP and Director of UNDP's Regional Bureau for Asia and the Pacific, and Mr. Khalid Malik, the UNDP Resident Representative in China on July 11 of 2009, aiming to further strengthen the cooperation between UNDP and MOST. The two sides reviewed the successful experiences of cooperation over the past ten years or so. They also, in the light of the current needs for science and technology both in China and abroad, discussed how to enhance cooperation in tackling the world financial crisis, saving energy and protecting environment through science and technology.
During the meeting, the two sides exchanged ideas on the achievements scored in the program of China’s Rural Poverty Alleviation through Science and Technology Innovation and Its Long-term Mechanism. DU highlighted that as a global network for development, UNDP has great influence in the international community. MOST always values cooperation with UNDP, and wishes to broaden S&T cooperation with UNDP in an all-around way. DU also said that Mr. Ajay Chhibber’s first visit to China is bound to deepen the bilateral cooperation in the new situation, and he wished a complete success for Mr. Ajay Chhibber’s visit to China.
