A plenary meeting of Expert Panel was held by the Department of Basic Research of MOST on August 10 in Beijing to study the strategic report on global changes research. The meeting was chaired by XU Guanhua, panel chief and academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

On behalf of the secretariat, researcher Ge Quansheng briefed the panel upon the framework and main contents of the report. The panel approved the draft and proposed suggestions concerning the need to highlight global vision and to identify the time frame for research, how to handle the relationship between global and regional changes, and how to cope with Copenhagen negotiation on climate change and map out long-term strategies.
