The 2009 Kubuqi International Desert Forum, with the theme of Desert, Science and Technology, and New Energy, was held in Ordos City, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region (IMAR) from August 28 to August 29,. The forum was sponsored by MOST, the Ministry of Agriculture, the State Forestry Administration, People’s Government of IMAR, All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce (AFIC), and China Society for Promotion of the Guangcai Program. Over 200 participants from both home and abroad attended the event.

Member of the Political Bureau of CPC Central Committee and State Coucilor LIU Yandong congratulated the opening of the forum by letter. VIPs attending the forum included HUANG Mengfu, Vice Chairman of CPPCC and Chairman of AFIC, WAN Gang, Minister of MOST and Chair of the forum, and LI Xueyong, Vice Minister and Party Secretary of MOST.

During the forum, an exhibition was held in the Seven Star Lake of Kubuqi Desert. The exhibition gave a panoramic view of the progress and achievements in combating desertification in China. It highlighted the leaders’ concern about the issue, the desertification in China, efforts made by governments at all levels, enterprises, and Chinese people in this regard, and the ecological control in Kubuqi Desert. MOST Party Secretary LI Xueyong went to the exhibition in the company of IMAR Vice Chairman Lian Ji.
