The Awarding Ceremony for the 2009 Assessment of National Space Information System Software was held on January 22 in Beijing. The assessment was targeted at professional space information system software, such as geographic information system (GIS) software with indigenous copyrights, remote sensing (RS) image processing software, and application software of Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS).

The assessment was launched in June, 2009. Altogether 43 pieces of software (including 30 pieces of GIS software, 3 pieces of RS software, and 10 pieces of GNSS application software) were involved in the assessment. 34 of them made their debut, accounting for 80% of the total. 47 experts were invited to evaluate the software, with 85% of them working at the forefront of scientific research.
