The TD-LTE, the first of its kind in the world, was launched in Shanghai on April 15. CPPCC Vice Chairman and MOST Minister WAN Gang, Vice Minister DU Zhanyuan attended the launch ceremony together with other distinguished guests. During his address, Minister WAN pointed out that TD-LTE is a landmark achievement in the science and technology innovation during the new era in our country, which will help entrench China’s position in setting new standards for international information industry.

TD-LTE, an evolution of TD-SCDMA—the domestically developed mobile communication technology—has unparalleled advantage in frequency spectrum utilization, which can download high definition videos, online interactive games, and high definition video conferences for customers.

TD-LTE service covers 5.28 square kilometers of the Expo venue.
