The launching ceremony of the Project for the Impacts of Southern Ocean and Indian Ocean on East Asia and Global Climate Change was held on Aug. 13, Qingdao.
The Project is aimed at four aspects: the impacts of interaction between sea, ice, and air on Southern Indian Ocean ; the impact of South Indian Ocean on the sea air of Indian Ocean; interaction of sea air during the monsoon season on Indian Ocean; and the models on forecasting the interannual and interdecadal variations of monsoon in East Asia.
The Project will reveal the mechanism for maintaining the climate signal channel in Southern Ocean, Indian Ocean, and East Asia from sea-air interactions. It is believed that this Project bears considerable significance in improving the models for forecasting annual variations of monsoon in East Asia and the weather forecast during the flood season for China.
