The China-IEA Scientific & Technological Cooperation Workshop was held in Beijing on February 18, 2011. The representatives of Chinese agencies involved in the IEA (International Energy Agency) implementing agreements made presentations on the progress of their cooperation with the IEA and plans for future work.

Since the signing of a framework document on energy technology cooperation between the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) and the IEA in 2001, considerable progress has been made in the field of S&T cooperation. MOST attended the IEA Committee on Energy Research and Technology (CERT) and the Working Party on Fossil Fuels (WPFF) meetings in the capacity of observer and co-hosted with IEA a series of technology workshops. China is already a formal member of 12 IEA implementing agreements, including those on the IEA Clean Coal Centre, photovoltaic power generation and hydropower, and also plans to join agreements on solar thermal power generation and thermochemistry; environmental, safety and economic aspects of fusion power; and ocean energy systems. In the meanwhile, China has also participated in programs launched within the framework of IEA implementing agreements on heat pump technologies and enhanced oil recovery.
