Minister Wan Accompanied Premier Wen's Visit to Germany

Minister Wan Gang accompanied Premier Wen Jiabao of the State Council to Germany for the first round of China-Germany intergovernmental consultation from June 27th to 28th. The event was co-chaired by Premier Wen Jiabao and German Chancellor Angela Merkel. Over 20 ministers from the two sides in charge of diplomacy, economy, science & technology, education, culture, agriculture, environmental protection, quality inspection, judicial affairs and other areas reported the status of cooperation in their respective fields and their future work plans. In the meeting, Minister Wan summed up the achievements of China-Germany S&T cooperation in recent years, and reported to the two prime ministers on enhancing future collaboration in the field of innovation research, electric vehicles, environment and sustainable development, life sciences and so on. This meeting represents the highest level dialogue mechanism between the two governments.

With the presence of Premier Wen and Chancellor Merkel, the two sides issued China-Germany Joint Statement on the Establishment of Strategic Partnership on Electric Vehicles in Berlin on June 28th, and Minister Wan and Georg Schütte, State Secretary at Germany Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) signed Joint Statement between MOST and BMBF on the Establishment of Life Sciences Innovation Platform. Before the intergovernmental consultation, Wan respectively met with Peter Ramsauer, Minister of Germany Federal Ministry of Transport, Building and Urban Development (BMVBS) and, State Secretary of BMBF, signing three documents, including MOU between MOST and BMVBS on sustainable transport, energy saving and emission reduction and innovative transport technology cooperation, Joint Statement between MOST and BMBF on the establishment of innovation policy platform and Joint Statement between MOST and BMBF on innovative research program "Clean Water". These documents provided frameworks for enhancing bilateral cooperation in major science programs, joint labs and innovation synergy of industry, university and research institute.
