Minister Wan Gang met with Gary Faye Locke, the new US ambassador to China at MOST on September 26th. Both sides exchanged opinions on enhancing China-US S&T cooperation.
Minister Wan thanked Gary Locke for his efforts to advance China-US S&T cooperation, innovation dialogue and Clean Energy Research Center during his term as U.S. Commerce Secretary. Wan also said that S&T cooperation is a vital part of bilateral relations. Under the frameworks of China-US Agreement on S&T Cooperation and China-US Joint Committeen on S&T Cooperation (Joint Committee), China is ready to enhance cooperation in the fields of energy, agriculture, health and environmentn, so as to contribute to the stability and development of bilateral relations.
Ambassador Gary Locke spoke highly of Wan's proposal. He pointed out that China-US S&T cooperation bears great significance and fruitful outcomes. It is one of the most dynamic areas in bilateral relations. US pays great attention to the exchange and cooperation with China under the Joint Committtee mechanism, and is willing to work together with China to improve livelihood, create jobs, enhance enterprises' competitiveness and address global challenges.
