Minister Wan Gang met with Christopher Viehbacher, Chairman of Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PHRMA) and CEO of Sanofi on October 18th. Both sides exchanged opinions on enhancing S&T cooperation in medicine and health.

Minister Wan briefed the guests on China's 12th Five-year Plan, particularly in the field of biotechnology, medicine and health. He also hoped to enhance cooperation with American enterprises, universities and research institutes, including members of PHRMA, and jointly address global challenges such as health for the benefit of people of the two countries and across the world. Viehbacher briefed the Chinese side on relevant work of PHRMA, and expressed the willingness to work with Chinese counterparts in the area of mutual interest, including development of new medicine and intellectual property protection.
