The Forum on China-Africa Scientific and Technological Cooperation sponsored by MOST was held in Beijing on December 1st, 2011. With the theme of "Innovation, Cooperation and Development", the forum was comprised of two sessions: "Scientific and Technological Strategy and Policy" and "Science Park Planning and Construction".
Nearly 130 representatives from government authorities, research institutes and embassies of 42 African countries and African Union attended the event, including 20 ministers and 16 ambassadors. Vice Minister Cao Jianlin chaired the opening ceremony. Vice Minister Wang Zhigang and Assistant Foreign Minister Zhang Ming addressed the event.
At the opening ceremony, VM Wang announced the launch of the Science and Technology Action for African Social Wellbeing. To enhance and support the cooperation in S&T for social wellbeing, China will help each African member of Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) to build a modular mobile container clinic. The Manual on China's Applicable Technology and the Introduction to China's National Hi-tech Zones were also issued to share China's advanced applicable technologies and experiences in the development of hi-tech zones with African countries, so as to increase their innovation capabilities.
The two sides agreed that based on the previous cooperation, China and Africa will further promote friendship and expand mutually beneficial cooperation to address the global challenges so as to reach common progress and prosperity.
