On 28th October 2013, Dr. Wan Gang, Minister of Science and Technology met with Dr. Earnest Moniz, US Energy Secretary. The two sides exchanged their views on deepening and expanding China-US cooperation on energy science and technology.
Minister Wan reviewed the recent major progress of China-US cooperation in energy science and technology, including bilateral mechanisms like US-China Clean Energy Research Center, China-US Fossil Energy Protocol Meeting as well as multilateral cooperation like Carbon Sequestration Leadership Forum and Clean Energy Ministerial etc. Minister Wan also introduced China‘s efforts on carbon capture, utilization and storage, pollution prevention as well as water resources and energy. Minister Wan hoped that both sides could work together to maintain a good momentum of cooperation, inject new vitality to and enrich the content of China-US cooperation in energy science and technology, thus contributing to addressing various global challenges.
Dr. Moniz pointed out that the US cherished years of close cooperation with the Ministry of Science and Technology in the field of energy science and technology and also appreciated the fruitful work done by China‘s scientific community under bilateral and multilateral frameworks. He said that US president Obama‘s climate change action plan particularly emphasized the cooperation under the framework of US-China Clean Energy Research Center. In addition, Dr. Moniz also introduced US policy measures and projects in energy conservation and emission reduction, hoping that relevant Chinese enterprises and research institutions could participate in the cooperation. He also put forward suggestions on cooperation in water resources and energy as well as carbon sequestration and stood ready to carry out substantive cooperation with China in areas of common concern.
Participants of the meeting also include Dr. Jin Xiaoming, Director General of the Department of International Cooperation of MOST, Mr. Ma Yanhe, Director General of the Department of S&T for Social Development and Mr. Chen Jaichang, Deputy Director General of the Department of High and New Technology Development and Industrialization.
