On 6th November, Vice Minister Cao Jianlin arrived at Guangzhou for the 3rd session of China-Brazil High-level Coordination and Cooperation Committee co-chaired by Mr. Wang Yang, Vice Premier of the State Council of China and Mr. Michel Temer, Vice President of Brazil. Vice Minister Cao and Mr. Raupp, Brazilian Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, delivered their speeches on science and technology cooperation. Vice Minister Cao said that Brazil was China’s important partner in carrying out science and technology innovation cooperation in Latin America. In the last two years, China and Brazil have seen rapid and sound development in innovative S&T cooperation. China hoped to work with Brazil in comprehensively deepening practical cooperation on S&T innovation, improving collaboration mechanisms, developing priority cooperation areas and enhancing the translation of high-tech achievements. China expected more fruitful results generated from China-Brazil S&T cooperation, so as to realize sustainable economic and social development and bring benefits to people of both countries. The 3rd session of S&T and Innovation Subcommittee of China-Brazil High-level Coordination and Cooperation Committee has been held in Brasilia on October 29th. The session was jointly hosted by Mr. Ma Linying, Deputy Director General of the Department of International Cooperation of MOST and Mr. Fonseca, Brazil’s Acting Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs and Director General of the Department of Science and Technology. About 30 representatives from major S&T cooperation departments and relevant institutions attended the session and delivered their reports. Established in 2004, the China-Brazil High-level Coordination and Cooperation Committee was the highest-level collaboration mechanism between Chinese and Brazilian governments. At present, chairmen of the two sides are Mr. Wang Yang, Vice Premier of the State Council and Mr. Temer, Vice President of Brazil. Under the framework of the Committee, 11 subcommittees were set up on various areas such as politics, economy and S&T innovation. The 1st and 2nd session of the committee were held in Brazil in 2006 and 2012. The 1st S&T and Innovation Subcommittee was held in Brazil in 2008, while the 2nd held in Beijing in 2011. Since the 1st S&T and Innovation Subcommittee, the two countries have built China-Brazil Joint Laboratory of Agricultural Sciences, China-Brazil Nanotechnology Research Centre and China-Brazil Center for Climate Change and Energy Technology Innovation. The two countries have also signed Memorandums of Understanding on establishing Biotechnology Center and Meteorological Satellite Joint Research Center, conducted cooperation on bamboo and rattan development and application and held the 1st China-Brazil High-level S&T Innovation Dialogue.
