From November 11 to 18, 2013, Vice Minister Wang Weizhong accompanied Vice Premier Liu Yandong on a visit to the US for the Fourth China-US High-Level Consultation on People-to-People Exchange, which was jointly hosted by Vice Premier Liu and US Secretary of State John Kerry. Science and Technology is an important component of China-US High-Level Consultation on People-to-People Exchange (CPE). During the CPE, MOST and US Department of State jointly hosted a working group meeting on S&T. During the meeting, the two sides reviewed people-to-people S&T exchanges supported by MOST, US Department of State and National Science Foundation, such as China-US Young Scientist Forum and East Asia and Pacific Summer Institutes (EAPSI) Program in China. They also discussed issues concerning S&T and the disabled, young physicists’ exchange and science education on earthquake prevention, and reached consensus on women’s career development in STEM (Science, Technology Engineering and mathematics). China-US Young Scientist Forum was included in the joint statement during the CPE. During his visit to the US, Vice Minister Wang met respectively with Dr. Mote, President of US National Academy of Engineering (NAE), and Dr. Leshner, CEO of American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). They exchanged views on the management of research funds, peer review, project management and practical cooperation in specific fields. Dr. Jin Xiaoming, Director General of the Department of International Cooperation of MOST, and Mr. Li Chaochen, Minister Counselor of Chinese Embassy to the US, also attended the meetings.
