On February 26 2014, Vice Minister Zhang Laiwu met with Roger Beachy, former Chief Scientist of United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and Director of World Food Center (WFC) of UC Davis, and Pan Zhongli, professor of UC Davis, in Beijing.
Dr. Beachy presented the development concept of the WFC and his idea of collaborating with China. Minister Zhang briefed on the successful experience of China-US agricultural S&T cooperation, expressed his willingness to support cooperation between WFC and its Chinese counterparts, and exchanged views with Professor Beachy on strengthening China-US S&T cooperation in food security.
Participants of the meeting also include Mr. Wang Zhe, DDG of the Department of Rural Science and Technology, Mr. Cai Jianing, Counselor of the Department of International Cooperation, and Mr. Niu Jing, Director of Zhuhai Hengqin Administrative Committee.
