On May 29, 2014, Minister Wan Gang met with Mr. Max Baucus, the newly-appointed American Ambassador to China. The two sides exchanged views on issues of common concern such as China-US science, technology, and innovation cooperation.
Minister Wan reviewed cooperation progress on China-US Joint Committee Meeting on S&T Cooperation, Innovation Dialogue, Clean Energy Research Center and flagship projects on agricultural research as well as basic research and cultural and people-to-people exchanges in recent years, and gave a snapshot of S&T measures to deal with climate change, energy efficiency and environmental protection. Minister Wan hoped that the two sides could continue to strengthen science, technology, and innovation cooperation, contributing to the stability and development of bilateral relations as well as the improvement of people’s livelihood.
Ambassador Baucus hoped for deepened STI dialogue and cooperation with China and was willing to encourage government sectors, enterprises, universities and research institutes to expand cooperation in energy, environment, response to climate change and agricultural research.
Participants of the meeting also included Mr. Zhao Yuhai, DG of the Department of High and New Technology Development and Industrialization, Mr. Chen Chuanhong, DG of the Department of Rural Science and Technology, Mr. Cai Jianing, counselor of the Department of International Cooperation, Mr. Cao Guoying, DDG of the Department of Basic Research, and Mr. Sun Chengyong, counselor of the Department of S&T for Social Development as well as representatives from S&T environmental health, energy, agriculture, and business departments of American Embassy to China.
