On July 9, 2014, Vice Minister Wang Zhigang attended the joint opening ceremony of the sixth round of China-US Strategic and Economic Dialogue and the fifth China-U.S. High-Level Consultation on People-to-People Exchange (CPE) at Diaoyutai State Guest Hotel. On July 10, Vice Minister Wang attended the plenary session of the CPE co-chaired by Chinese Vice Premier Liu Yandong and U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry in the Great Hall of the People. As a CPE member, MOST has participated in every consultation since the establishment of this mechanism in 2010. During this round of consultation, MOST and the US Department of State co-hosted the working group meeting on science and technology. Representatives from China Association for Science and Technology, the US National Science Foundation, and the American Embassy in China attended the meeting. Both sides reviewed the people-to-people exchanges in the field of science and technology and reached agreement on the future plan. During the consultation, Minister Wang published a signed article in the People’s Daily, presenting bilateral exchanges and cooperation in S&T. He pointed out that the S&T authorities of the two countries should strengthen exchanges and cooperation and constantly explore modalities of cooperation based on equality and mutual benefit, in order to promote China-U.S. people-to-people exchanges. The deliverables of this round of consultation included the sixth and seventh China-U.S. Young Scientist Forum held in China and the US respectively, the visit of Chinese young scientists to the US, and the annual 8-week East Asia and Pacific Summer Institute (EAPSI) in China. Mr. Jin Xiaoming, Director-General of International Cooperation of MOST and Mr. Ma Linying, Deputy Director-General of International Cooperation attended relevant activities of this consultation.
