Vice Minister Yin Hejun recently met with Ambassador Robert Holleyman, Deputy United States Trade Representative in Beijing.
Yin Hejun said China has made tremendous progress in many areas since the beginning of the reform and opening up, but serious challenges of population growth, environmental pollution and energy shortage have yet to be addressed. As we seek to replace the traditional model of economic development, we need to give science, technology and innovation (STI) a prominent and pioneering role. He spoke highly of the China-U.S. Innovation Dialogue for its positive role in increasing mutual trust, dispelling mistrust, strengthening policy exchange and sharing the best practices, and he hoped the two sides can continue to make good use of the platform to discuss issues of mutual interest.
Ambassador Robert Holleyman hailed the remarkable accomplishments China has made in advancing STI, noting that both sides have carried out fruitful collaborations through platforms such as the China-U.S. Innovation Dialogue and the U.S.-China Clean Energy Research Center. He said both sides should strengthen communication regarding how to encourage innovation, address global challenges in energy and environment, boost emerging industries, share best practices and launch reciprocal cooperation.
